You have a Voice

John the Baptist was uniquely positioned to prepare the way for Messiah. Here’s what Jesus had to say about his uniqueness: Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist; yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (Matthew 11:11) Did you catch that? Although John was the greatest of all men and greatest of all prophets because of his uniqueness in preparing the way for the coming Messiah, anyone who is a follower of Jesus is greater than John! Greater in our service, greater in power, greater in responsibility, greater in Spirit, greater in that we live in the age of grace and fullness of the Holy Spirit with complete, unhindered access to the Father through Messiah Jesus.

You and I are uniquely positioned to also prepare the way for the coming of Jesus –his Second Coming! We are very much like John the Baptist (JB). We are each modern-day JB’s who have been commissioned or appointed or assigned the task of preparing the world for the coming of Jesus – what the prophets called that great and dreadful Day of the Lord (Joel 2:31 and Acts 2:20) Although we’re in the Advent season of preparation as we anticipate the birth of Jesus in Bethlehem, in God’s timeline of divine history, we are 2,000 yrs beyond that event. As we look back at John the Baptist and the birth of Jesus, at the same time we must also look forward to a greater event. We are now at the verge or threshold of Christ’s return. We are also called to be Couriers for Christ. Right now! We have been called to go and share the love of Jesus – a love that unites diverse people in refreshing community. We are to build a community of Jesus-followers in these end-times before he returns. That’s our calling. That’s our task. We are living in the end times, the last days. We are uniquely positioned to share the Gospel message to a lost world right before Jesus returns. It reminds me of the OT story of Queen Esther.  Only a short time had passed after Esther had been selected and put into place as King Ahasuerus’s queen. Then her people, the Jews, were threatened with genocide. And in God’s plan, God’s timing, her cousin Mordecai told her not to remain silent but to use her voice because she had come to her royal position “for such a time as this.” You and I are here on this earth right now, in this day and age, for such a time as this.

John is the voice that leads people in the exodus out of their spiritual wilderness. He’s the voice telling them how to prepare themselves for the coming of the Lord. He was sent by God with a message to deliver. He had something to say. God had given him the words to speak. And just like John the Baptist, you also have a voice. You have a voice to prepare people for the coming of the Lord. You have a responsibility to prepare people by sharing the Gospel. You have been commissioned to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that Jesus commanded. (Matthew 28:19-20) God has given us a vision to go and share the love of Jesus and unite people in the refreshing community that we share. Now is the time to share that love, to be audacious, bold and daring to share the love of Jesus this Christmas season. Don’t be shy about that! It’s not the x-mas season or the holiday season. It’s the Christmas season because a Savior has been born who is Christ the Lord! John the Baptist didn’t keep the message to himself. He didn’t stay out in the wilderness forever. At the right time his voice called people to prepare the way for the coming of the Lord. Now… it is your time to be a voice for the coming of the Lord. Don’t miss the opportunity God gives you. Be bold. Be courageous. Invite people. Share with them.
