Something I have found to be a problem in my life is that I am forgetful. Not necessarily forgetful when it comes to my keys, phone, or to-do list. More so forgetful when it comes to my identity. My identity is not found in what I do currently or have done in the past. My identity is found in who Jesus says I am. Jesus alone defines me. \
The reason this is a problem is because when I forget my identity I begin living as someone that I am not, and I start to believe lies. I start to believe lies from Satan that tell me I am not good enough, that I am a nobody, no one likes me, and I am worthless. All of these lies lead to anxiety and angst.
But when I hold onto the truth, I know that Jesus likes me and loves me. When I hold onto the truth, I know that Jesus wanted me so much that he gave his life for me. When I hold onto the truth, I know that I am a child of God. I am loved, pure, holy, righteous, and an heir of coming glory.
If you are in Christ, these things are true of you too. Jesus loves you and wants you to know these things because he wants you to live in freedom from lies.
As you go throughout this week and the coming weeks pay attention to your self talk, what you say to yourself. Remind yourself daily of who Jesus says you are.
Hold on to the truth, it sets you free.
In Christ, Pastor Michael Covey
“The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” - Romans 8:15
