Last weekend we celebrated God’s blessing of freedom that he has provided to us in the USA. Freedom goes much further than something given to you by a nation. Freedom is when what has chained and entangled us is removed. Our sins keep us stuck. To be free, the ball and chain must come off.
“As God opens your eyes to see how you have sinned against others, he simultaneously offers you a way to find freedom from your past wrongs. It is called confession. Many people have never experienced this freedom because they have never learned how to confess their wrongs honestly and unconditionally. Instead they use words like these: “I’m sorry if I hurt you.” “Let’s just forget the past.” “I suppose I could have done a better job.” “I guess it’s not all your fault.” These token statements rarely trigger genuine forgiveness and reconciliation. If you really want to make peace, ask God to help you breathe grace by humbly and thoroughly admitting your wrongs. One way to do this is to use the Seven A’s.” – Ken Sande
The Seven A’s of Confession:
1. Address Everyone Involved.
2. Avoid If, But, and Maybe.
3. Admit Specifically
4. Acknowledge the Hurt.
5. Accept the Consequences.
6. Alter Your Behavior.
7. Ask for Forgiveness (and Allow Time.)
We often think of confession as something between us and God, and that is where we start because every sin is against God. Often our sins are against other people too and we need to confess our wrongs to them. When we do not confess our wrongs to others it does not allow us to live at peace and freedom.
Ask God to reveal broken relationships. Who do you need to humbly confess wrong to?
